Swagedelic!

I've already got the banner here on my blog, but I wanted to give a special note just for swagbucks. It is so easy - use their search engine just like you would with google or yahoo, and randomly win bucks that you can spend for mp3 downloads, amazon gc's, etc. I'm about to get my first $5 amazon gift card, and I know some people who have made over $800! Woohoo! Go swagbucks!

A tip - right after you sign up, do a quick search for whatever suits your fancy. You'll probably win some bucks right away!

A giveaway from A Frugal Friend!

If you're here for my giveaway, welcome! I wanted to pass along another blog contest at A Frugal Friend: Paper Shouts BRIDE WARS DVD Giveaway. Check it out!

Ready for CVS, I think?

I have several online friends that are always bragging about their amazing scores at CVS, where they stockpile all kinds of random stuff (toothpaste, wart remover, you know) at obscenely low prices. I think this week I am finally ready to foray into the mysterious world of CVSing.

The reason for my excitement to start this week? This deal on mouthwash from the The Natural Dentist (thanks Money Saving Mom!) I recently started going to a more natural dentist and based on his recommendations I've really been wanting to try a more natural, flouride-free product like the Natural Dentist mouthwash. Hmmmm, flouride...healthy teeth or health disaster? It's a controversial topic, to say the least. This is the first time I've talked to a real, actual licensed dentist who says that flouride is not good. I think it requires a little more research, but in the meantime I would love to try the product for free!

And, I actually bought a Sunday paper so I actually have coupons!! I might even try to score a deal on the Intuition razor for $.99 and the free 3m hooks!

I am sad to post that my computer seems to hate both coupons.com and smartsource.com, where many of the amazing coupons are found. I can't print from either site. I've complained to Mr. T about it (you would think a computer guy could get his own computer to print coupons for his money-saving wife!) but he doesn't seem that concerned. Boo. It might be time to resurrect the dinosaur PC from the basement, just for the coupons!

Baby Stellan

I've been an avid reader of MckMama's blog for a while. She somehow manages to capture the harrowing details of dealing with her baby's struggle with a heart condition while at the same time adding a touch of humor and light in her posts.

In her latest news, she and baby Stellan are home from their extended hospital stay....if you haven't already heard, catch the details here.

A giveaway!

What better way to start off a brand new blog than a giveaway! I was inspired after reading a post about Heavenly Homemaker's Springtime Giveaway Carnival. She has a lot of giveaways posted!

I am a member of bzzagent, where basically you get to try new products if you share them with your friends. In my last campaign I got to try the new Nature's Source cleaners from SC Johnson. Being a natural, toxin-free, vinegar and baking soda kind of mama, I was excited to see a greener choice from a big name-brand company.

If you've seen my shower, you know about my constant battles with hard water. Nasty icky stuff. I've tried my old standby of vinegar. I've tried lemon juice. I've tried scrubbing with baking soda. And honestly, our shower remains pretty nasty. So I will admit that I was pretty impressed with the Nature's Source shower cleaner. It broke up a lot of the ick and required a lot less scrubbing.

They make several other types of cleaner, too. My one complaint? They still use synthetic fragrances. Booo. But if you're still using conventional cleaners and you want an easy way to do greener cleaning, check it out.

Now for the giveaway: One reader will win a free bottle of your choice of Nature's Source cleaner! To enter, leave me a comment below and let me know which of their cleaning products you would like to get. For an extra entry, post the contest on twitter and let me know you tweeted in a second comment. Make sure your e-mail address is in your profile, or leave it in your comment. I'll pick a winner on Fri, May 1st. Good luck!

UPDATE: The winner for the contest is Tracey! Congrats Tracey, and thanks to everyone to entered! I will have more giveaways soon - keep checking back for more.

Three (big) pigs

Lately the talk around our house has been all about the pigs. And no, not because of the swine flu. My husband Mr.T has somehow become a meat broker between our local farmers and about 15 random friends and family members. One advantage to our big move to the country has been access to lots of local farmers for veggies, fruits, and meat. And Mr. T has been taking full advantage of it all, being the king of the carnivores that he has always been.

So our newest endeavor has been to order three pigs (aka hogs for you less romantically inclined). This is our first foray into the world of the pig, and it is an eye-opening experience. Between worms, castration, and pig slop, there is a lot to consider about that pork on your plate.

As I write, we have a large order of pork being processed for us. It is apparently so lean that the butcher can't make any bacon out of it. Mr. T is pretty excited, and has been searching for the most creative pork recipes he can find. If you have any, pass them on!

In the meantime, if you're interested in using local meats, I highly recommend the book The Grassfed Gourmet: Healthy Cooking and Good Living with Pastured-Raised Foods. And you can search for a local source at Local Harvest You see your food in a whole new light once you see the life cycle process from start to beginning.

Yes, there is also me

My husband read my last (and first!) post with interest, then suggested I point out that before I am a wife and mother, I am first a "me". How profound. But who am I, if not a series of labels regarding how I relate to everyone else?

Me, somewhat.

Welcome to my little corner of the world. I suppose I should introduce myself...I am a wife and new stay-at-home mommy aspiring to be a work-at-home mommy. I love deal-seeking, natural living, baby cuddling, and blog reading, which leads me to my own new blog. Pull up a chair and stay for a bit...I'll try to make it worth your while!
